Visiting Malaysia will no be enough without dropping by to Langkawi, a group of 99 small islands in Malaysia. Because it is formed by many islands, Langkawi has many beaches suitable for swimming or diving. The name Langkawi was taken from helang (eagle) and kawi (reddish brown) from a folklore which means ‘reddish brown eagle’. A statue of a huge reddish brown eagle is now available in an area in Langkawi – the Eagle Square.
A lot of wonderful places can be found in Langkawi so that it is impossible to visit all of the places if you just stay for two or three days. There are more than 30 places which are needed to visit when you go to Langkawi. Some of he places are Seven Wells, Caves, Craft Cultural Complex, Oriental Village, Crystal Village, The Langkawi Waterfall, and Laman Padi Langkawi. The Seven Wells, also known as Telaga Tujuh, are seven pools which were formed because of a waterfall. The waterfall is surrounded by a green forest that makes the air fresh. It is famous for a legend about fairies using the waterfall to bathe.
The next ones, caves, are available in some areas in Langkawi. The most visited one is Gua Cerita because it can be accessed easily from Tanjung Rhu. Visitors can go inside the cave to see the different formations of rocks and the legends behind them.
The other place, Craft Cultural Complex, is an interesting place to shop. Here, visitors can buy various kinds of Malaysian handicraft. The Oriental Village is probably the most interesting place of shopping and culinary because it offers many unique things as well as the culinaries from the Asia.
The Crystal Village provides many different products made of glass. Almost anything being sold here is made of glass or crystal by some skillful craftsmen. The last one, Laman Padi Langkah, tells visitors about paddy cultivation, how it began, and how it developed in Malaysia. The tourists can also plant the paddy themselves in they want to try their hands on it.
