Population 340,000 The Australian Capital Territory consists of the nation's capital, the city of Canberra in the north, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in the southwest and Namadgi National Park in the south. There is plenty to do and see in this compact territory, ranging from many of Australia's national attractions and major events to experiencing the scenery, wildlife, walking trails and Aboriginal rock art of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park. This is all located just 3 hours drive from Sydney and 7 hours drive from Melbourne.
Canberra The nation's capital is a fascinating place because it has been meticulously planned and built, making it very easy to get around on foot, on a bike, or by car. The centrepiece that divides the city into north and south is Lake Burley Griffin. This is a man-made lake named after the American architect who won an international competition to design the city. Parklands and many of the city's main attractions surround the lake. It is also popular for a variety of water sports and activities. There is so much to do and see in Canberra. Many of Australia's major cultural, historical, sporting and scientific museums, galleries and other attractions are located here. The city also has a busy calendar of events and festivals, hundreds of restaurants and cafes, wineries, good nightlife, markets, beautiful gardens and many sporting events to see.
The city is surrounded by natural bushland and hills, most of which is contained in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in the southwest and Namadgi National Park in the south. These areas are great for outdoor activities such as bushwalking, abseiling, rock climbing, mountain biking and cycling.
