Coral Bay is a popular stopover on the way to Exmouth, which lies 160 kilometres to the north. It is also the starting point for the impressive Coral Coast and Pilbara Region. The town is laid back and tiny and has warm weather all year round. The town also backs onto a beautiful white sandy beach, which is excellent for swimming, snorkelling or just chillin out. Coral Bay is also at the southern tip of the Ningaloo Marine Park, which is right off the beach.
This is a spectacular reef system with abundant marine life and beautiful coral gardens. A good time to visit the area is in March/April while the coral is spawning. If you're lucky you may even get an opportunity to swim with the world's biggest fish, the docile whale shark, which visits between April and June each year to feed.
Coral Bay Profile
The southern tip of the Ningaloo Marine Park, including the Ningaloo Reef, is located right off the beach. This is a spectacular reef system with over 500 species of tropical fish and 220 species of coral and is one of the largest fringing reefs in the world stretching over 260 kilometres.
Swim with the world's biggest fish, the docile whale shark, which visits between April and June each year to feed.
Fantastic place for divers and snorkellers. The marine park is home to a year round population of dolphins, dugongs, reef sharks, manta rays and green turtles.
Check out the reef shark nursery, where from October to March as many as 200 reef sharks frolic in the shallow waters.
Head down to Main Beach at 3.30pm and feed the schools of Norwest Snapper that swim into shore at this time every day. Go on a deep sea and game fishing charter with local fishermen.
