Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS)
Overview
Ngurah Rai Airport is located nine miles (13km) south of Denpasar, the capital of Bali. Formerly known as Denapsar International Airport, the facility was renamed for a war hero from the Indonesian Revolution in 1946.
The airport processes more than 11 million passengers each year, well over its eight million capacity, making it crowded and chaotic. Expansion plans are underway, however the construction currently adds to the chaos rather than alleviating it. Peak travel times are especially busy, with long and chaotic queues.
Flights to Ngurah Rai Airport come from destinations around Asia and the Pacific region, including cities like Bangkok, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Phuket, Hong Kong, Seouls, Brisbane and Taipei. Location The airport is situated eight miles (13km) southwest of Denpasar and one and a half miles (2.5km) south of Kuta. Getting to the city Bus services leave regularly for Denpasar city centre and the main holiday resorts, including Kuta. Metered taxis are available and passengers should insist that the driver uses a meter, even if he claims it is broken.
